CITIZEN SCIENCE

Citizen science initiatives play a crucial role in democratizing scientific research, bridging the gap between the scientific community and the general public.

These initiatives empower individuals to contribute to scientific data collection, analysis, and dissemination, encouraging a greater understanding and appreciation of science among laypeople.

The participation of citizens in science also allows for more and more frequent collection of data that would otherwise not be possible financially and time-wise for scientists.

We have collaborated with citizens through various channels, including partnerships with Ciência Viva and participation in the ANERIS project, as well as through our own initiatives.

we have developed guides to help you identify what you see on the shore and how to contribute. Take a peak here!

Between 2rd May and 15th October, our team is organizing the bioMARatona 2026 - an initiative that encourages citizens to submit their biodiversity observations and contribute to science. â€‹

We use the platform MINKA to collect, store and organize biodiversity data.

Questions about how it works? We have prepared some guides to help you both use the app and the website !

Last year we reached > 3000 observations that covered  262 species. Wanna help us beat that number this year?

if you would like to organize your own activity and want to get training on how to do that, please reach out to biomaratona@gmail.com

This initiative is part of a bigger effort at the European level! Find out more here: https://biomarato.org/en/

You have until October 15 to take part!
Let's record biodiversity together!

In the north of Portugal, we also organize guided trips to the shore. Stay tuned to know when!
